Fifth International Learning Alliance workshop, Ethiopia 2019

The International Learning Alliance (ILA) aims to facilitate multi-stakeholder learning to inform SAI policy and investment decision making and for building institutional capacity to share the lessons from the programme at the global level. The 5th ILA meeting was held on the 12th – 14th November 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The overall aims of the 5th ILA were therefore to:

  1. Enable research projects and NLAs to share and reflect on their key results,
  2. Reflect on SAIRLA’s overall outcomes and lessons, and
  3. Communicate the programme’s findings, evidence and tools to decision makers.

Its objectives were:

  1. Stakeholders with a more common understanding of SAI issues and how to strengthen the enabling environment for equitable SAI
  2. Researchers better able to communicate findings and tools
  3. Decision makers informed by a broader body of SAI-related evidence and tools and their implications

Fourth International Learning Alliance workshop, Tanzania 2019

The fourth International Learning Alliance workshop took place in Tanzania from the 28th to the 30th of May 2019 and was attended by both SAIRLA research project and National Learning Alliance representatives. The objectives of the meeting were:

  1. Sharing research outcomes: share lessons on research methodologies and implementation; and give other research teams and NLAs the opportunity to learn about, discuss and experience key findings and tools
  2. Informing policy and investment processes: sharing successes and results, lessons and opportunities for effective engagement with decision makers
  3. Social learning: identifying examples of different kinds and levels of social learning in the programme
  4. Towards impact and sustainability: vision and priorities for the final 6 months of the programme including external sharing of lessons and findings (what, with whom and how?), and continuing the programme’s agenda, both in-country and internationally

 

ICT for Agricultural Extension in Ethiopia

The Ethiopia NLA hosted an ‘ICT marketplace’ event in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Digital Green in April 2019 with the following objectives:

  1. To create a multi-stakeholders platform (IP) among ICT organisations
  2. Create awareness around current and potential ICTs for agricultural extension services in Ethiopia, including who is using and who is providing the ICT services.
  3. Facilitate linkages between ICT providers, users, policy makers and investors
  4. Identify challenges and opportunities for use of ICT for agricultural extension services in Ethiopia and how these can be addressed
  5. Get inputs for preparation of implementation guideline for the ICT pillar of the National Extension Strategy 
  6. To decide on the future  direction in mainstreaming ICT| in Ethiopia’s Agricultural Advisory Service Delivery.
