The Tanzania NLA has focused its work on the SAIRLA themes around priority issues for the country’s agriculture sector identified by members. It works closely with SAIRLA’s five research projects in Tanzania to engage decision makers on SAI evidence and tools under the themes of;
1. EQUITY: District level agriculture resource allocation for women, youth and the disabled
2. TRADE-OFFS: Climate Smart Agriculture
3. SERVICES: the use of ICT in agricultural extension services
2019 activities include;
- Analysis of budgeted funds allocated to agriculture and, in particular to women, youth and the disabled in two districts: Mbarali and Kilolo. Sharing of the analysis at events at the district and national level that include use of the SHARED participatory trade-off tool and sharing of evidence from the SAIRLA Afrint IV research project
- Promotion of the CLEANED trade-off tool to inform national level policy making on livestock
- Coordination with Tanzania Climate Smart Agriculture Alliance (TCSAA)
- Drawing on SAIRLA research project evidence (GALA project and What works where for which farmer? Project) to inform engagement with key decision makers on ways to address barriers to the use of ICT in agro-advisory services in Tanzania. Issues include; cost, targeting and accessibility of extension and advisory services provided through the mobile phone network
